SHARE was the Hodgson one-name society for 20 years.
It had a globalwide membership circuit plus nonpaying supporters.
It put out a quarterly Hodgson journal printed and posted from South Africa.
It received 1000 Hodgson family trees and connected several hundred donors.
It created a Hodgson database of material from miscellaneous & multiple sources.
These records are freely & easily accessible at this web site anytime.

In early 2004, with membership down, SHARE was shut down.

Was It Because Membership Dues Were Not Universally Popular?
Many emphatically told us dues were unacceptable & inappropriate.
We had overhead expenses -- PC and printer, the journal, the database CDs,
paper, printing, postage, publicity, preparation of assemblies, etc.
The internet generated the decline of genealogy groups.
Would the resolution be to have no dues?

Was It Because Family Trees That Shared Roots Were Merged?
The lack of appreciation and no followups were cogent indicators.
It would have been easier to file new family trees as they were;
and if they link with existing trees, just to flag them.
For now our merged trees will remain merged.
Is your preference for us to stop merging?

Was It Because Archiving Was Too Much for One Volunteer?
From the correlator's lone perspective, this was a very serious problem.
His repeated requests for assistance resulted in sympathetic responses but no resolutions.
One volunteer having all the satisfaction simply could not go on any longer.
Fact: Our filing procedures are flexible, friendly and fun.
Would you consider joining a team of volunteers?

To get started, how about a new identity?
