WES 1700s:
CA1195 John HODGSON m.1750 Elizabeth HOBARN née RAWES in WES ENG.
Their grandson Rev. John HODGSON (1779-1845) wrote the History of Northumberland, essentially a history of land ownership in each parish. It was the first History of any part of Northumberland to include printed pedigrees. Published in parts from 1827 through 1840, it was never completed. Hodgson was Vicar of Jarrow, Kirkwhelpington and Hartburn. He was at Jarrow when a disastrous underground explosion killed 92 miners in Felling Colliery, located within Jarrow's Parochial Chapelry of Heworth. Hodgson wrote a book giving details of it, and he pushed successfully to further improvements in miners' safety. His eldest son Richard Wellington HODGSON sent his father's papers to the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle-upon-Tyne who deposited them in the Northumberland County Record Office.
