Robert Hodgson:
Born 1798; educated King's College, Nova Scotia. Barrister at Prince
Edward Island and Nova Scotia 1819; elected a member of House of Assembly
1825. Apponited Attorney and Advocate General and Surrogate and Judge
of Probate 1828; a member of the Executive Council 1829; President of
Legislative Council 1840. Acting Chief Justice 1841, Chief Justice 1852;
Judge of Vice Admiralty Court 1853; Administrator of the Government
1865, 1870 and 1873-74; Lieut. Governor of PEI 1874-79. Made Kt.
Bachelor 7 March 1869 by Letters Patent. Married (1827) Fanny, daughter
of Capt. Ronald Macdonnell of Charlottetown, PEI. Sir Robert died 1880.
Sir Frederick
Mitchell Hodgson: Born 1851; son of the Rev. Octavius Arthur Hodgson,
Rector of East Stoke, Dorset. In Savings Bank Department of G.P.O. 1868-69;
Postmaster General, British Guiana 1882-88; Colonial Secretary of Gold
Coast 1888-98. Governor and Commander in Chief of Gold Coast 1898-1900;
Governor and Commander in Chief, Barbados, 1900-04; Governor of British
Guiana 1904-11. Major Commanding Gold Coast Rifle Volunteers which he
raised in 1892; K.C.M.G. 3 June 1899. Married (1883) Mary Alice,
daughter of William Alexander George Young, Governor of Gold Coast.
Sir Frederick died in 1925.
Sir Richard
Hodgson: Mayor of Carlisle; Kt. Bachelor 30 Dec 1795 dubbed at
St. James' Palace.
Sir Arthur Hodgson:
Born 1818; Mayor of Stratford-upon-Avon 1884-88; High Sheriff of Warwickshire
1881; K.C.M.G. 28 June 1886. Son of the Rev. Edward Hodgson,
Vicar of Ricknmansworth. Educated at Eton and Cambridge University.
Served three years as Midshipman in H.M.S. Canopus; sometime Colonial
Secretary and Minister for Works in Queensland. Commissioner for Queensland
at Universal Exhibitions in London in 1862, Paris 1867 and 1878, and
in Vienna 1874. A Royal Commissioner and General Secretary to Reception
Committee of Colonial and Indian Exhibition 1886. J.P. and D.L. for
Warwickshire. Married in 1841 daughter of Sir James Dowling, Chief Justice
of New South Wales.
Sir Edward Highton
Hodgson: Born 1880; educated at St. Bees, Cumberland. Under Secretary
at Board of Trade 1932-41; Second Secretary 1941-45; Principal Finance
Officer 1946-49; Member National Research Development Corporation 1949;
Kt. Bach. 8 July 1941; K.B.E. 1945. Married (1906) Gertrude,
daughter of T. Adamson of Bolton, Lancashire. Sir Edward died in 1955.
Sir Edward Matthew
Hodgson: Born 1820; son of Thomas Woodward Hodgson of Manchester.
J.P. for Dublin and Member of Dublin County Council. Kt. Bach. 16
January 1901. Married 1st (1846) Letitia, daughter of Isaac Christian
of Dublin; 2nd (1892) Emily Sarah, daughter of John Blackmore of Clifton,
Bristol. Sir Edward died in 1904.

dubbed in New Delhi. Married )1929) Sylvia Joan, daughter of Maximilian
Robert Lawrence of Wimbledon.
Sir Mark Hodgson:
Born 1880; educated Diamond Hall and Sunderland. Son of Joshua Hodgson
of Hull. Technical College. Technical advisor to Admiralty 1916-18;
Member Shipbuilding Committee of Ministry of War Transport and Admiralty
1944-48; General Secretary United Society of Boilermakers and Iron and
Steel Shipbuilders 1936-48; J.P. (Northumberland) 1932; Kt Bach.
13 Feb. 1945. Married (1900) Elizabeth Jane, daughter of Henry Davie
of Sunderland. Sir Mark died in 1967.
Sir William
Hodgson: Born 1854. Son of Abraham Hodgson of Liverpool. Mayor of
Crwe 1893; Alderman and Chairman Chesire County Council; Chairman Chesire
Joint Sanatorium Committee; Kt. Bach. 11 Feb. 1921. Married (1881)
Elizabeth, daughter of Richard Ward of Leeds. Sir William died in 1940.
