ANTARCTICA: Cape Hodgson 78°07'S, 166°05'E is the northernmost promontory of Black Island near McMurdo Sound and on the Ross Ice Shelf or the Ross Archipelago. Named (1958-59) for Thomas V. Hodgson, biologist (1901-04), who with Koettlitz, Ferrar and Bernacchi was first to visit the island. Hodgson Nunatak 74°17'S, 100°04'W lies 5 mi S of Teeters Nunatak and 20 mi NW of Mount Moses in the Hudson Mountains. A nunatak is an isolated mountain peak or hill rising above the surrounding glacial ice. Named for Ronald A. Hodgson, USN, builder with the Byrd Station party, 1966. Hodge Escarpment 83°03'S, 50°11'W lies to the NE of Henderson Bluff on the NW side of Lexington Table. Named for Steven M. Hodge, USGS geophysicist, who worked in the Dufek Massif and Forrestal Range, 1978-79. Hodgeman Islands 67°01'S, 144°14'E A group of small islands lying close to the coast, 4 mi WSW of Cape De la Motte, in the E part of the entrance to Watt Bay. Named for Alfred J. Hodgeman, cartographer and assistant meteorologist. Mount Hodges 54°16'S, 36°32'W Standing 605 m and 1 mi W of Mount Duse, close NW of the head of King Edward Cove, Cumberland East Bay, South Georgia. Probably named for Capt. M.H.Hodges, RN, who visited and mapped portions of Cumberland Bay in 1906. Hodges Glacier 54°16'S, 36°32'W Small glacier 1 mi W of Grytviken, South Georgia, flowing from S side of Petrel Peak to the foot of Mount Hodges. Hodges Point 67°21'S, 65°03'W A Rocky point terminating in an impressive black cliff, lying 6 mi ENE of Cape Northrop on the E coast of Graham Land. Twin summits on the point rise to 940 m and 960 m. Named for Ben Hodges, General Assistant with the BAS Larsen Ice Shelf party, 1963-4. Hodson Mount 56°42'S, 27°13'W Volcanic mountain, 915 m, forming the summit of Visokoi Island in the South Sandwich Islands. Discovered in 1819 by a Russian expedition under Bellingshausen. Named for Arnold Hodson, then Gov. of the Falkland Islands. Hodson Point 54°08'S, 36°47'W Point lying 1 mi S of Small Bay, on the E side of Fortuna Bay, South Georgia. The name appears to be first used on a 1931 British Admiralty chart.

AUSTRALIA: Hodgson River flows across Hodgson Downs, an upland region in the Northern Territory, to the Gulf of Carpentaria.

CANADA: Hodgson, Manitoba, is 90 mi N of Winnipeg, in the Manitou district between Lakes Manitoba and Winnipeg. Hodgeville is 30 mi SE of Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Hodges Hill and Hodge's Cove are on Newfoundland.

ENGLAND: In Howden, Yorkshire, the local Leisure Centre was built on Hodgson Field. In the Lake District of Cumbria, two miles W of Keswick, there is a natural hill named Hodgson How. How is from the Old Norse haugr or mound. Hodgson How may have been a place of assembly or Viking thing. Hodgson Hill, a mysterious earthworks on the northeast shoreline of Lake Ullswater, Lake District, may be the remains of a Viking fortified settlement.
